IND vs WI: Day 1, Prithvi Shaw Show On Debut, India 364/4

The first match of the two-match Test series between India and the West Indies is being played in Rajkot. India have made 364 runs at the loss of 4 wickets till the end of the first day’s play. In this match India won the toss and decided to bat first. The highlight of the first day of the game was 18-year-old Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw, who scored 134 runs on his debut and showed no mercy on West Indies bowlers. At the moment, India’s captain Virat Kohli (72) and Rishabh Pant (17) are frozen at the crease.

Besides the Prithvi century Cheteshwar Pujara (86) and captain Virat Kohli (72 not out) scored half centuries. . 

Prithvi also made a century in his Ranji Trophy match and he is the youngest player to score a hundred in the Duleep Trophy. 

Some of the records made by Prithvi Shaw during his innings 

  • Shaw is the second youngest Indian to score a Test century, behind only Sachin Tendulkar. Overall, Shaw is the seventh youngest to get to a century in Tests.
  • Shaw took 99 balls to reach his ton, which is the third-fastest by any batsman on Test debut. Shikhar Dhawan’s 85-ball ton against Australia in Mohali in 2012-13 is the fastest century on debut. Dwayne Smith had reached hundred off 93 balls on his debut.
  • Shaw is the second youngest Indian to score a Test century, behind only Sachin Tendulkar. Overall, Shaw is the seventh youngest to get to a century in Tests.

Prithvi Shaw played unquestionably, positively and scored freely to put together 206 runs alongside Cheteshwar Pujara. After that Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane (41) shared a 105-run partnership for the fourth wicket in a strong position.

West Indies got breakthrough in very first over

India had lost opener Lokesh Rahul (0) early in the over, after which the Prithvi and Pujara took over the charge. Then Prithvi completed the century by playing fast bowler Cheema Paul for two runs on the cover and became the 2nd youngest Indian batsman to score Test century and in process also become 293rd cricketer to represent Team India in Test matches.
