Rahul Dravid, Ricky Ponting and Claire Taylor Inducted into ICC Hall of Fame 2018

The International Cricket Council has included former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting and former female cricketer Claire Taylor in the ICC Hall of Fame. These three were included in this special group of cricketers at a ceremony on Sunday.

ICC Chief Executive David Richardson said this is the ICC’s way of honoring the great players of this game. Only the best players in the world are given the place to contribute to cricket and I congratulate Dravid, Ponting and Taylor for being included in the Hall of Fame.

Rahul Dravid is among the world’s seven cricketers who have 10000 runs in both Test and ODI formats. He first became ICC Cricketer of the Year in 2004. Dravid said,  

“It is a matter of great honour to be named by the ICC in the Cricket Hall of Fame. To find your name in a list of all-time greats across generations is something one only dreams of while setting out on a cricket career and the kind of recognition that would delight any player,” Dravid was quoted as saying in an ICC media release.

“I am thankful to my near and dear ones as well as players I have played with and against, coaches and officials who have backed me over the years and helped me develop as a cricketer.

Former Indian skippers Bishan Singh Bedi, Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev were inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame in 2009, while Anil Kumble was included in 2015. 

Ponting retired as the second-highest run-getter in Test cricket in 2012. He is also  the third highest score in ODIs. Under his leadership Australia won the World Cup twice. Ponting said, “I am honored to join this group.

Claire Taylor is England’s third and world’s seventh female cricketer to join the Hall of Fame. Claire played an important role in getting the country into the World Cup in 2009.
