IND vs WI: The three-match T20 series between India and West Indies starts today. The first match is to be played at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. Before this match, the statement of West Indies captain Carlos Brathwaite has surprised everyone. Brathwaite said before the series that Team India is the big contender to win this series.
India has not won the last four matches against the West Indies, including the 2016 World T20 semi-final defeat. The over-all record of West Indies’s win against India is 5-2. Brathwaite said before the match, “We do not think so. The Indian team is strong in any format on its day. Especially after the arrival of the IPL and the Indian superstar who plays T20 cricket, I think they will certainly start as a strong contender. ‘
He said, “We are not like to be called second in this format, etc. but this time we will not deny it. But we are not feeling ashamed of it. ” India had cleaned 2-0 in the Test series against the West Indies, while the five-match ODI series 3-1 had its name.
Carlos Brathwaite statement is true to some extent as West Indies team is ranked No. 7 in the format with only Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka behind them. India are ranked two, with only Pakistan above them, recently Pakistan team won their 11th consecutive T20I series. After winning the last T20 World Cup at the Eden Gardens, Windies have won only 9 of their 24 matches and lost as many as 13.
The series could go on either of two sides way and it will be really exiting to see the healthy competition between the two sides
