Sri Lanka team was ranked at no. 6 when they entered the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. The team is not in the best of the form since the retirement of its key and big players Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene. Both players played last ODI on 18th Mar 2015 against South Africa. The Sri Lankan team is young side with blend of experienced players. Players like Lasitha Malinga, Upual Tharanga, Thisara Perera, and Skipper Angelo Mathews have good experience.
Bad thing for Sri Lanka is that there experienced Upual Tharanga has been suspended for 2 matches in ICC Champions Trophy for a slow over rate against South Africa, Group B 1st Match. The Sri Lankan team took more than 4 hours to complete the innings. Umpires said that had allotted them extra time allowance also but still they were slow. Upual Tharanga was standing as captain in that match because Skipper Angelo Mathews could not clear the fitness test.
Out of Last 13 ODI’s which Sri Lanka had played they have won just 5, 2 No Result and 6 lost and against India they have played 5 ODI’s and lost all the 5 and in last 4 T20 they have won just 1 and lost 3.
