Did You Know in which year first Test Hat-trick came?

31 July 2017:  Moeen Ali claimed hat-trick no. 42 in history of Test Cricket on a final day of Eng vs South Africa 3rd test match that was being played at The oval and it was the 100th Test match at Oval since 1880 the First test match was played there and England beat South Africa by 239 runs and leads the series 2-1.

But how many of you know when was the first test hat-trick was taken?

Hat-trick: A hat-trick is when a bowler takes wickets with three consecutive deliveries

  • Frederick Spofforth from Australia became the first bowler to pick the test hat-trick in year 1878-79 test match against England. His v came victims were Vernon Royle , Francis MacKinnon, Tom Emmet.
  • Thomas James Matthews from Australia is the only bowler to pick hat-trick in both the innings of the test match. He did this against South Africa in 1912 at Manchestor.
  • Irfan Pathan from India picked hat-trick in very first over of the Test
  • Nuwan Zoysa hat-trick was from the first 3 deliveries he bowled.
  • Maurice Allom (Eng), Peter Petherick (NZ) and Damien Fleming (Aus) did the hat-trick on debut Test Match.
  • Two incidences when Test match ended with a hat-trick. Hugh Trumble of Australia in 1902 against England and Moeen Ali in 2017 did this against South Africa.
  • Courtney Walsh (WI), Jermaine Lawson (WI) and Merv Hughes (Aus) hat-tricks involved two innings.
