Kohli will become the second Indian Skipper to Complete 50 Tests- IND vs SA

The second match of the Test series between India and South Africa will start tomorrow. Indian skipper Kohli will achieve a personal milestone in this match.

This will be Kohli’s 50th Test match as captain. He will become the second Indian player to play fifty Test matches as a captain. Kohli is one match away from becoming the second Indian to captain reach 50 Tests. Kohli will achieve this feat in the second Test match against South Africa at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium.

Currently Kohli is jointly second with former captain Saurabh Ganguly (49 Tests as captain). Prior to Kohli and Ganguly, former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has captained India for 60 Tests from 2008 to 2014.

The Indian team won by 203 runs in the first Test match played in Visakhapatnam and they are 1-0 in the three-match Test series.

Kohli is the most successful Indian captain

Kohli is India’s most successful Test captain. Kohli has won 29 of 49 Tests and lost 10 matches. There are also 10 matches drawn. Mahendra Singh Dhoni had won 27 out of 60 Test matches. Saurabh Ganguly won 21 Tests.

Graeme Smith has Played most Tests as a Skipper

Talking about the record of captaincy in most Test matches in international cricket, Graeme Smith is ahead of South Africa. Smith captained his team in 109 Test matches. He had won 53. Australia’s Alan Border captained 93 Tests and won 32. This is followed by Stephen Fleming of New Zealand, who captained the team in 80 Tests. Ricky Ponting captained 77 matches and won 48 matches.
