Mithali Raj announces retirement from T20Is , Want To Focus on 2021 CWC

Indian women cricketer Mithali Raj announced her retirement from T20 International on Tuesday.

“After representing India in T20 internationals since 2006, I wish to retire from T20Is to focus my energies on readying myself for the 2021 One Day World Cup. It remains my dream to win a World Cup for my country and I want to give it my best. I thank the BCCI for their continuous support and wish the Indian T20 team good luck as they prepare for the home series against South Africa Women,” Mithali Raj was quoted saying in a press release issued by BCCI.

The 36-year-old senior opener has captained the country in 32 T20Is, including the three women’s WT20 World Cups in 2012 (Sri Lanka), 2014 (Bangladesh) and 2016 (India).will focus on preparations for the ODI World Cup to be held in 2021. “Mithali has scored 2364 runs in 89 matches for India in the women’s T20.


Mithali said- My dream of winning the World Cup for the country is still incomplete and I want to give my best in it. I want to thank the BCCI for their continued support to me. I wish the Indian T20 team all the best for the next series against South Africa.

Mithali Raj had completed 2000 runs in T20 International cricket before Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Mithali Raj has represented India in 89 T20 matches. In these matches, Mithali’s bat has scored 2364 runs with 17 half-centuries.
