On this day, 2007, the ‘Sachin Tendulkar-The God of Cricket’ became the first man in history to reach the milestone of 15,000 runs in ODIs and so far, the only one to do so.
Tendulkar punched 93, sharing an opening partnership of 134 with Saurav Ganguly (42), to help India reach their target of 227 with five balls to spare and level the three-match series 1-1.

Sachin Tendulkar was also the first cricketer to score 10,000 runs in the 50-over format of the game, which he achieved against Australia in Indore in 2001. In overall, he played 463 ODI matches, scoring 18,426 runs at an average of 44.83. Besides, he also slammed 49 tons and 96 fifties in his career — both records still remain untouched. He was also the first player to score a double century in ODIs.
Sachin made his ODI debut against Pakistan in 1989, but he scored first ODI run against New Zealand at Wellington on March 6, 1990. He had scored ducks in his first two ODIs and in the third, he managed a fluent 36 off just 39 balls, a blazing knock of those times. He came in at No. 6 in this match, as he used to during the early days of his ODI career. India won the match by a meagre one run, so Tendulkar’s was worthy in that match.
Sachin said goodbye to ODIs in 2012. Sachin has played 463 matches in his ODI career, in which he scored 18,426 runs. Sachin’s runs include 2016 fours and 195 sixes.
