India Will Play ICC Champions Trophy 2017: BCCI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) finally has given the green signal to the Indian cricket team to play in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 which will take place in England and Wales this year starting in June, 2017. The much awaited news for all fans came today at the Board’s Special General Meeting (SGM) in Delhi.

This makes clear that the defending Champions will play in the tournament and will defend the trophy this year. The squad for the ICC Champions trophy will be declared on Monday, 8th May, 2017.

The team participation in Champions trophy (CT) was uncertain after India was outvoted 13-1 in ICC finance model meeting. This was the major cause for which BCCI was threatening to pull out of CT-2017. Earlier India got $570 millions but this time they are getting far less i.e. $293 millions for the period 2016-2023. The BCCI already missed the dead line of announcing the team which was 25th April, 2017. All other members have announced their squads already.

The decision came after SC appointed of Committee of Administration to intervene in the matter and told them to select the team earliest.

All though Acting BCCI seceretory Amitabh Chaudhary will continue to negotiate with ICC over the issue.

We think player’s interest is more important and they are the one who should be asked before taking any decision. We are representing a country not an individual; so countries pride is prime all other matters come afterwards.
