Rohit Sharma is Just Two Steps Behind Breaking This Record of Sachin Tendulkar

Indian opener Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 152 against the West Indies. Rohit hit a total of 15 boundaries and eight sixes in his innings. After this match, he came third in the matter of imposing the highest number of sixes in ODI cricket for India. In the name of Rohit, the total number of 194 sixes has been recorded in ODI cricket and it is only two steps behind breaking the record of former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.

Rohit Sharma can leave Sachin Tendulkar Behind

Sachin Tendulkar is second on the list of the most sixes in ODIs for India, while Rohit Sharma on the third spot. Sachin Tendulkar had hit total of 195 sixes and Rohit has so far hit 194 sixes. In such a case, if Rohit has hit two sixes against West Indies in 2nd ODI at Visakhapatnam, then he could leave Sachin Tendulkar behind and come at second place for India.

At the same time, the record for the most sixes for India in ODIs is currently on the name of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. In the first ODI, Rohit left former skipper Sourav Ganguly who had hit 190 sixes in ODI cricket.

India’s wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni is 4th on the list with 217 sixes and the only Indian batsman to be in the top 5.

Former Pakistan batsman Shahid Afridi leads the chart with 351 sixes to his name followed by Windies opener Chris Gayle with 275 sixes. The third on the list is Sri Lankan batting great Sanath Jayasuriya with 270 hits.

Rohit became the first player to hit six 150-plus scores in ODIs leaving behind Sachin Tendulkar ODI record of five such occasions which was equalled by David Warner last year. He also scored the second 150-plus while chasing the target making him the 6th player to do so twice batting second in ODIs after Sanath Jayasuriya, Shane Watson, Kohli, Quinton de Kock and Jason Roy.

Unbeaten 152 by Rohit is the second highest individual score for India against West Indiess in ODI cricket after 219 by Virender Sehwag in Indore in 2011.

Rohit became the first player to hit six 150-plus scores in ODIs surpassing the long standing ODI record of five such instances by Tendulkar which was equaled by David Warner last year. This was the second time he scored 150-plus in a run-chase making him the sixth player to do so twice batting second in ODIs after Sanath Jayasuriya, Shane Watson, Kohli, Quinton de Kock and Jason Roy.

Rohit Sharma 4th Quickest to 20 ODI Hundreds

Rohit Sharma become 4th quickest to reach 20 ODI. He has taken 183 innings to reach the milestone and also became the fourth batsman for India and 13th overall to score 20 or more ODI centuries. Hashim Amla (108 innings), Kohli (133) and AB de Villiers (175) have done it in fewer innings.
