Rohit Sharma will lead the Men in Blue for the ODIs against Sri Lanka, Virat Kohli rested

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced the ODI squads for the 3 ODIss against Sri Lanka series which includes one Test, three ODIs. Virat Kohli has been rested from the three-match ODI series against the Lankan’s and Rohit Sharma has been named as the skipper for the 3 ODI match series to lead the Men in blue starting from December 10

Kohli, who few days back, had spoken about India’s workload management; he is the only Indian player to have played in surplus of 100 matches across international formats since January 2015. Kohli has played 113 matches in the given period.

Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja once again ignored for the three-match ODI series,  Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel returned for the ODI squad. Shardul Thakur is another miss from the 15-member squad along with KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav, but Shreyas Iyer has found his name on the list. 

Hardik Pandya, who was given rest for the Test series against Sri Lanka, will make a comeback for the limited-overs series. Siddarth Kaul has been named in the squad for the ODI series. He was impressive enough in the India A game against New Zealand, earlier last month and had also delivered a couple of crucial spells in the tri-series in South Africa. 

India won the second of the three-test series against the Sri Lanka by an innings and 239 runs in Nagpur on Monday and will play the final test in Delhi from Saturday.

Opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan returns to the squad for the final test after withdrawing from the second match for personal reasons.

India will also host Sri Lanka in three Twenty20 matches before the tour to South Africa.

India begin their overseas trip with the marathon tour of South Africa, which starts on 5 January and comprises three Tests, as many T20Is and six ODIs, and will go on till 24 February.

The team for the South African tour was expected to be announced today but have been postponed
