Off Spinner R Ashwin claimed four wickets to return overall match figures of 8-130.The match also witnessed Virat Kohli slamming his fifth Test double ton and Ashwin becoming the fastest to 300 Test wickets among other milestones. The scene now shifts north, as the hosts prepare to take on the visitors in the third and final Test at the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi starting 2 December.

After match what captains said:

Virat Kohli: The pitch was very good to bat on. It was on the slow side but there was nothing much happening. Just wanted to bat the way I wanted to – get into good positions and keep rotating strike. It’s something I’ve wanted to better myself. Once you cross hundred you buckle up and help the team. It’s a combination of fitness and everything. Pujara, noticeably he’s been very consistent. Vijay missed out on Test cricket but he grasped this opportunity, Rohit as well, making a strong comeback for himself going ahead. Definitely he will be in the plan of things. I think all the guys, Bhuvi has played a lot of cricket in last 3 months. Ishant, Shami and Yadav haven’t played so much but they have played a lot of first class cricket. I think Ishant was outstanding, he was the stand out bowler obviously the spinners doing well. Yes, that is exactly why we asked for pitches with some life in it. Kolkata was good one, this one deteriorated bit quickly. We are looking towards the big tour that is coming up.

Chandimal: It was a good toss to win. Unfortunately, we were outplayed from the first day. Our batting let us down again. When you’re playing against India, you’ve got to score 350-plus. Before we came here, we had a game-plan. We said to the guys – if you get a start you have to go on. Hopefully, these youngsters will come back strong. Mathews is the senior-most guy in the batting line-up. If he’s not scoring, the batting line-up has let us down. I’m sure he’ll come back strong. We need to get positives out of this. When we’re bowling, our body language was excellent. Need to score more runs in the first innings. That’s what we need to discuss as a unit. This wicket was good to bat on for the first three days. The bowling unit has done a really good job. But if you have no runs on the board, they can’t do anything.
